Geocaching - Mein 80. Cache

Geocaching - GPS Stash Hunt

Since some of my friends asked me: "what the hell is this geocaching thing that you are constantly talking about"...I want to try to explain it in brief. Detailed information you can find at the geocaching website.

Everyone can do it. All you need is a GPS unit and some sense for outdoors and adventure. It is all based on the coordinates, Longitude and Latitude. Everywhere on earth people hide and seek hidden treasures (caches), but the treasure itself usually contains nothing valuable. Only small trade items (toys, cards etc.) Some of them contain trackable items-thats another chapter.

Usually it begins like this: you are searching the geocaching homepage for hidden caches. The coordinates are given there or you have to solve a quest of one or more stages to find out the final coordinates of the cache.

Your GPS unit will lead you to the location where the cache is hidden. Finding the cache box is sometimes easy, sometimes really hard. It can be hidden on the ground, in a tree, under a bridge...or..or..or...million other possibilities-be creative.

Once you found the box, you will find a logbook inside and you should log your visit there. If there are trade items inside the cache box, you can take something but you should also leave something.

To show you how an easy quest looks like, you can click here for an example. This is one of the category easy.

That's it in brief description. Now you know how I spend a lot of my freetime. I like it a lot and some of the quests are really challenging and I am working on their solvation since months.

This is how my profile looks like on geocaching.com:

A Rainy Day and 40 kilometres by bicycle

That was a wet day yesterday...in the end I drove some 40 kilometres by bicycle, mostly through rain.

When I woke up, I realized that my freetime for the rest of this week would be limited. Thursday afternoon I wil have to go to the doctor again for some talking - more about that later. Friday night and Saturday I will spend with Jale (with pleasure).
So, I decided to make this wednesday and active but joyfull day. And that's how an active and joyfull day looks for me:

5.45h I got up and at 6.30h went by bicycle to the studio to do my fitness training. At 9.00h I was finished and went all the way to my work (15 km). After work I decided to do some geocaching in the eveings and again sat on my bicycle and drove 12 km through pouring rain to search and find a cache in Bremen (GPS Stash hunt) . Rain doesn't bother me too much, I have good clothes to protect myself. At 7.00 p.m. I was lucky and happily signed the logbook.

All in all I did some 42 kilometres by bicycle today and when I arrived back home at 8.30 p.m., I felt somehow physically worn out but also I felt very fresh in my brain - and those two feelings go perfectly together. If you do long distances by bicycle or walking, you have a lot more chances to look around, let new ideas and thoughts into your mind and let them grow or just spin around ;-) It is nice to me...sometimes.

18.02.2007 - HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Yes...it is CHINESE NEW YEAR!!And I want to congratulate everyone who is paying attention to it!!!

If I am right, the chinese calendar follows the "gregorian calendar" based on the lunar calendar. So, the chinese New Year starts on a different day each year.

This year will be The Year of the Pig (dīnghài 24). The pig stands for honesty and the element of this year is FIRE.

Now, if I was telling anything wrong here, please correct me. Jessie will be back in one week only...so I need everyones help if I was wrong!!

Who treats people the way they could be, makes them better"

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749-1832)

"Drop the thought"

This morning on my way to work (by bicycle of course ;-)) I was listening to an audiobook and someone in that story mentioned a quote of the Dalai Lama saying "Drop the thought".

There was a try of an explanation of that quotation saying that if any thought is bothering you and worrying you deeply, you should just drop it. Don't think too much about it, let it fall...drop it.

I have not thought too much about it yet, but it was moving me...it sounds interesting to me and it remained in my thoughts.

What do you think about that quotation? It sounds too easy and too naive and egoistic...but maybe it is not too bad at all. It is not saying that you should drop your troubles and the people who are in trouble. It is only saying that for the moment you should drop the thought. Or??? Am I wrong?? heeeelp!!!!!!!!!!!

every flake counts

As you see on the pics of today, we are thankfull for every little snowflake. Today it was said that the snow would melt away, so we got up early to drive to a nearby forest and find a very very small hill fur some luge fun. It was good that we went there early...in the afternoon it was only wet and muddy everywhere :-)

Geocaching - Mein 60. Cache

10.02.2007 Samba Carnival, Bremen

Is there anywhere in your cities a carnival celebration going on?? I would be happy to hear about that!!!

Yesssss....today was a good day. Since I do not work saturdays anymore, we took the opportunity today to go to the Bremen city centre and have a look at the Bremen carnival. The Bremen carnival is different to other german carnival celebrations. Totally different!!! It is a pure Samba Carnival. With Samba Music and lots and lots of groups performing, living and enjoying the samba performances. The whole thing starts at the historical market place and the following procession is about 3-4 km long.

This year the motto was "Carnival Industrial" which sounded a bit strange to me first. But any motto makes sense to give a unique idea for all the participants and their costumes. We arrived by tram in the centre and as soon as we got out, we heard a roaring...some strange noise coming from everywhere of the city. Sounded a bit threateningly (as if "Orks" where on their ways...) but the nearer we got, the more we recognized what was going on: All the Samba Schools, Groups and Bands were playing the drums together long time before the official start. As if they wanted to drum themselves into some kind of Trance and to forget the daily troubles for some hours and dive into a flush of music, movement, smiles and fun. It was great...undescribable!!!

Remember...Bremen is situated in the north of Germany and today we had some -2°C...but somehow the whole crowd (including audience and performers) have been a moving crowd..steaming, pumping, drumming.

Today was one of the few days when I regreted that I stopped playing the drums some 15 years ago.

The end of the internet...

10cm of snow today...but it will be melted away until tomorrow I'm afraid.

After I survived my bicycle tour through snowstorm last night, I think I used the internet a bit too excessive.
Why??? After a while this page appeared. For all those who don't know the strange german language, it is saying: "You have reached the end of the internet", "it is not going any further".

Please-if you are not out for an adventure that you cannot understand, better not press the button "INTERNET BEENDEN"

Has anyone else found such strange websites?? I am a collector of strange websites ;-)

snow snow snow!!!

as I posted earlier on today...here it is: genuine snow!! it has just begun to fall and I am not sure if I should be happy.

Just wanted to leave office and now I am curious how this will work out if I go by bicycle all the 10km through snow. So, if anyone will miss me tomorrow, you know what probably has happened :-)

Wish me luck

Winter in Germany

Wow...who would have guessed that???
After spring feelings in January, it seems as if winter wants to show us that it is still there....somewhere.

The -4°C this morning are not too frosty, but they can put an icy smile on a bicycists face and make your hair grey (fortunately only from frozen breath)!

But it is such a nice view this morning. Everything looks like sugar-coated. Now we are waiting for snow...
How is it at your places??
