Quote of the week

The quote of the week is not from Winni this week. But thanks to Winni for his permission to let me do the blog. You are a real sweetie, Winni *smack*

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.

Geocaching - Mein 100. Cache

One wheeled motorcycle

I used to drive motorcycles for a long time and so I was really amazed and shocked about the following news:

After all sorts of three wheeled motorcycles (e.g., the T-Rex and the PIAGGIO MP3), how about a one-wheeler? The Bombardier EMBRIO is a concept one-wheeled hydrogen fuel cell-powered, gyroscopically balanced recreational and commuting vehicle for one or more passengers. The EMBRIO takes the Segway a step further toward its designers' vision of human transportation in the year 2025. The design team at the Canadian company Bombardier chose very light materials for the EMBRIO, including aluminum, magnesium, and nylon, resulting in a total weight of merely 360 lbs. (163 kg). The EMBRIO will use a number of advanced automotive technologies, such as infrared night vision, a digitally encoded key, and active suspension, which can vary its damping rates based on road conditions. Balance is achieved via a network of sensors and gyroscopes.

How could you feel the excitment of driving through a narrow bend on one wheel?? My imagination comes to an end here....I really hope that this will be a plan only and that it will never become reality. But if it will become reality in 2025...well, that is the year when I am expecting to be near my pension, so it won't really bother me then anymore I guess ;-)

The Golden Calf

Tuesday, 20th I was visiting the CeBIT in Hanover. It is said to be the worlds largest and most important trade fair for ICT innovations.

Since IT technologies do not belong to my job in first place, I only use the yearly fair to keep myself informed about whats new and whats cheap... ;-) I usually stay only 4-5 hours there, visit only 30% of all the fair and have only 3-4 meetings.
This year it was even less. I had only 1 business meeting and spent the rest of my time getting myself informed about new technologies. So, I arrived only at 11.30 a.m. and left again at 3.30 p.m. already.

And as every year, I was asking myself: why are all those people so much in a hurry? Why do I feel as if being a viewer of a badly produced movie called "the dance around the golden calf"???
It is real life on such trade fairs...sure...but over all I get the feeling as if there won't be anything working in the near future without computer/information technologies. Is that good or bad?? Make up your own oppinion...

Good to know that there are some things that will remain and survive all the hype...such as humanity, friendship, laughing, love...anything I forgot???

No time...

Something funny and spooky happened to me this morning: Time had left me!

At 6.00 a.m. everything was still ok. My alarm clock rang and I got up, prepared my things to go to my training. When I left home, I wanted to have a look at my wristwatch to see if I was in time and I noticed that I had left the watch at home. Nothing spectacular, I did not want to go back and I knew that there was a clock in my car waiting for me. It was still there, but parts of the displays remained dark...some fuses were broken.

While doing training I realized that the 2 clocks in the studio were out of order. One of them was still running, but showing 1.20 a.m.!! So, I always had to ask some fellow training partners for the time, because my time usually is short in the mornings and I need to follow a timetable to not get to work too late.

Later on in the Sauna...you may guess what happened: yes, there was no time too for me. The clock on the wall was missing. It simply was not there anymore. After sauna and training I told all that to a friend and he said: why don't you just look at your mobile-phone??? Cool idea...but last night I attached my mobile to the power outlet to recharge the batteries, and this morning left it at home.

When I arrived at work, all over sudden everything was okay again. Time was running again and every clock was working.

So, I spent some strange and spooky 4 hours this morning. Being "timeless" without the correct time was unusual. Even though I never look too much at my watch and I am not one of the people who are always in time...it was unexplainable to me.

Geocaching - Mein 90. Cache

Iiiiiiihhhhh!!!!

Element of Crime

Yesterday I was at the concert of Element of Crime in Oldenburg. I was nearly free of pain and so I was able to really enjoy the concert. The music of EoC usually gives me peace and harmony in todays sometimes cruel and stressy world. And so it was yesterday. Time went by and all the beautifully performed sounds passed my ears too quickly. I was happy for some hours and took the good vibrations home with me.

After the concert I got the chance to talk to the lights mixer. I knew him from an internet forum talk and we had a talk and a beer after the show. That was nice and it is good to know him. I won't have to buy the next ticket, he will put me on the guest list :-)

For those of you who are interested in Element of Crime, feel free to visit their homepage or
Or if you know some german, follow the thoughts of the band leader. Sven Regener is writing a daily tour- blog here

I feel bad...

Haven't blogged anything for some days. Mainly because I am sick since some days. A heavy flu or something like that has finally won the fight against my body. Not a cold but a real influenza with heavy headaches, chills and shivers and legs and arms seem to be in pain always. Funny but I have no fever...maybe it would have been better to have some higher temperature--

So, I am off of work this week but I hope that everyone of you out there is feeling healthy & happy.
