Morrissey - Refusal Concert Bremen

Am 15. Dezember 2008 hab ich mir, 2 Stunden nach Veröffentlichung, das Konzertticket gezogen. Ein halbes Jahr später, also gestern ,war es dann endlich soweit und Morrissey gab sich die Ehre im Pier 2.

Als Support Act spielten Doll & The Kicks die Morrissey sich angeblich selbst ausgesucht haben soll. Die spielten ein handwerklich tolles, etwa 30 minütiges, Set wobei mir vor allem die Spielweise des Gitarristen sehr gut gefiel. Die Stimme der "Doll" Sängerin ging mir dagegen gehörig auf den Zeiger, den sie war meistens nur laut und hysterisch. Eines sei noch erwähnt: Doll & The Kicks hatten den vermutlich besten Sound den ich jemals bei einem Live Gig gehört habe.

Während der 30 minütigen Umbaupause wurde neben einer alten "Musikladen" Aufnahme der New York Dolls auch das Promo Video für die neue Sparks CD (jaja) "Lighten Up Morrissey" gespielt und das fand ich sowas von urig das ich es hier mal eben einfüge.



Etwa 21.10h ging es dann endlich los und ich fand es schon zemlich bemerkenswert das als Opener "This Charming Man" aus dem Jahr 1984 gespielt wurde. Überhaupt wurden an diesem Abend erstaunlich viele sehr alte Stücke gespielt, was mir natürlich sehr gefiel, vielen anderen Besuchern aber das ein oder andere Stirnrunzeln entlockte.

Die, wie immer brilliant besetzte Band spielte äußerst druckvoll und ruppig und legte so den perfekten Soundteppich für Morrisseys Gesang. Perfekter Soundteppich wurde es allerdings erst nach etwa 20 Minuten. Die ersten Songs verschwanden in einem eledigen Soundbrei und es dauerte doch eine ganze Zeit bis der Mixer es etwas erträglicher gestaltete.

Ich hab mir keine Setlist notiert , empfand das ganze Konzert aber als sehr angenehm, die Mischung stimmte. Meine persönlichen Highlights an diesem Abend waren das tolle "How Soon Is Now" und die besondere Fassung von "The World Is Full Of Crashing Bores". Wie bei fast allen "neuzeitlichen" Konzerten kam die beste Stimmung auf bei "Irish Blood, English Heart"


Morrissey war gut drauf und wenn der sich auf ein Frage und Antwort Spiel (any rude questions anyone?) mit dem Publikum enlässt hat das für Morrissey ja fast schon etwas von Hedonismus und Lebensfreude. So haben wir immerhin erfahren das er heute nacht nicht im Bett schlafen wird sondern nach Dänemark aufbrechen wird und das er noch nie geküsst wurde...obviously, wie er betonte!
Das ganze Konzert war also ein Riesenspaß für die die Moz mögen. Für die, die nur die letzte Single Auskopplung kennen war es vielleicht ein wenig enttäuschend denn "I`m Throwing My Arms Around Paris" war eines der schwächeren Songs an diesem Abend.

"Boah..war aber ein bischen zu hart, oder?"...hörte ich beim rausgehen gleich von mehreren Seiten. Aber das kann ich nicht bestätigen und ich empfand die Lautstärke als gerade richtig, auch wenn ich heute morgen noch so ein "Grundpiepen" im Ohr hatte.

Zu erwähnen sei noch das Morrissey diesmal die für ihn "normale" Konzertdauer von 70 Minuten um 10-15 Minuten überboten hat. Der Mann ist gerade 50 geworden und denkt darüber nach mit der Musik aufzuhören. Soll er mal lieber lassen und noch das eine oder andere Jahr dranhängen!

Breminale 2008

Mix it, baby...could be a good motto for this years Breminale again. Breminale is the Bremen Culture Spectacle taking place outdoors on the banks of the river "Weser", trying to combine all different kinds of arts, music, kids entertainment and as always it was again a very relaxed and joyfull atmosphere there.

All the different foods and drinks there did not really interest me that much (maybe because I forgot to take my money?) but the bands playing there were really interesting to me.
There are like 4 main stages with different bands performing there all day. All in all there were some 60 bands during 5 days playing and how different they were! We joined the gigs of:

The Coal Porters
Playing like Bluegrass,- Skiffle music. I have never been a friend of that really. But to this event it fitted perfectly. The musicians had so much fun with their performance and played a lot of uptempo pieces. Real fun to listen to their performance.

Outmatch
hmm...what was this? Those guys were really trying hard to act and behave like rockstars. They have the pose, they have the lightshow, they probably know how to play well...but this night they refused too. It was like boring rock music that you could play in the background of a shopping mall. And I bet they would give a lot to be able to sound and suck the same hard as Coldplay.

Dub Spencer & Trance Hill
That was a surprising act to me. This is a Dub/Reggae/Electronica kinda thing and that really moved me. The sound was so clear, the bassdrum went directly into my stomach and when they drifted away in some 10 minute improvisation (at least it sounded like improvisation) it was a good piece of Trance with exact and dry beats. They did not even play half as much reggae as one would think when looking at their myspace site. Maybe thats why I liked it. Very cool mix...I loved that!!!

Element of Crime

Yesterday I was at the concert of Element of Crime in Oldenburg. I was nearly free of pain and so I was able to really enjoy the concert. The music of EoC usually gives me peace and harmony in todays sometimes cruel and stressy world. And so it was yesterday. Time went by and all the beautifully performed sounds passed my ears too quickly. I was happy for some hours and took the good vibrations home with me.

After the concert I got the chance to talk to the lights mixer. I knew him from an internet forum talk and we had a talk and a beer after the show. That was nice and it is good to know him. I won't have to buy the next ticket, he will put me on the guest list :-)
